Clay Street Pedestrian Plaza

Project Details

Group Mackenzie designed the redevelopment of Clay Street as a pedestrian plaza as it connects Water Avenue to the Willamette River Eastbank Esplanade. Closed to vehicular traffic, this plaza utilizes green street concepts such as streetside infiltration planters and recycled materials. An agreement has been facilitated between the City of Portland and local private development to treat public and private storm water in a privately-maintained water quality facility. This enables improved water quality to be provided for the street runoff from Water Avenue prior to outfall to the Willamette River. The Clay Street Pedestrian Plaza also provides a needed pedestrian and bicycle link to the river from Central Eastside Industrial District.
